What this work is about
• Represent a government organization in a friendly and professional manner.
• Invite the public to explore the topic of tap water by using interactive activities provided for this purpose and suggest visitors to attend a MV watershed tour.
• Initiate discussions with the public about our tap water to develop awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the value of this resource.
• Encourage the public to ask questions such as: where our water comes from, how it is managed, drinking water regulations, its quality, and why we should conserve and protect it.
• Assist with set up and take down of the Water Wagon display.
• Maintain accurate records of conversations with the public and event evaluation forms.
• Travel to summer events throughout the lower mainland region.
What it’ll take to be on the team
• Previous experience working with the public and/or delivering outreach programs is desired.
• A passion to meaningfully engage a broad audience in a way that inspires change in perspective and behaviour towards sustainability (i.e. choosing to drink tap water over bottled water)
• A positive, outgoing attitude with strong interpersonal skills. Additional languages preferred.
• Proactively handle problems as they arise and work under minimal supervision.
• Effectively contribute to a team-based work environment and collaborate in pre and post event team meetings.
• Physically able to stand for a day and help with set up/take down of Water Wagon.
• Willingness to travel around the lower mainland area The use of a personal vehicle and a driver’s license is required for some events. Some events are not accessible by transit.
• Background in resource management, ecology, biology, education, communications and/or equivalent experience is desired.
Work Schedule
This is a part time opportunity. Applicants should be prepared to work 3 out of 4 weekends each month.
There will generally be 2 shifts at each event with 2 people per shift. In July & August there will be 4 events per week (4-8 hours per event). In June & Sept there will be 2 events per week, generally on weekends.

• This position is sub-contractor work with Engaging Minds Consulting. All staff are covered by WCB and commercial liability insurance through Engaging Minds Consulting.
• Mandatory, paid training includes: 2 days at Metro Vancouver (tentatively set for June 8th& 9th) and a watershed tour (TBA) in preparation for the first event on June 11th.
RATE: $16 – $20/hour depending on qualifications
