Would you like the opportunity to volunteer abroad, but never had the chance? Part of the newly launched International Citizen Service (ICS), Progressio’s ICS Empower, enables young adults interested in faith and development from all over the UK to experience life in a developing country.
For 10 weeks, you could be doing anything from providing support to people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS, to promoting sustainable farming approaches and helping farmers sell their goods. You could find yourself in Peru, El Salvador or Malawi and make a real contribution to development alongside local people. But wherever you are and whatever you do, you’ll know it’s making a big difference to some of the poorest communities in the world.
We’ve designed ICS Empower for people from diverse faith backgrounds, so provisions are in place to meet faith and cultural needs. Along with your fellow volunteers, you’ll also have the chance to explore your faith and learn about others’, from everyday practices to what they have to say about global poverty.
And that’s not all. When you get back to the UK, you’ll share your stories and help your own community to take action on global issues.
Most volunteers will be aged 18-22. If you’re 23 or older you’ll be expected to help lead a group or bring a specialist skill.
We want all kinds of people to go, so it doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from. What does matter is that you come with the right attitude and you’re up for taking action overseas and back at home. If you think that’s you, it probably is.
We are currently accepting applications to volunteer starting in October 2011 and January 2012.
Contract Type: Contract – as volunteering, not a contract, but a placement for a fixed 10 week period.
The closing date for the October departure is Sunday 12 June.
