The African
Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS, www.nexteinstein.org) is a
pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training,
research and outreach in mathematical sciences. Its mission is to enable
Africa’s brightest students to flourish as independent thinkers
, problem
solvers and innovators capable of propelling Africa’s future scientific,
educational and economic self-sufficiency. The first AIMS centre opened in Cape
Town, South Africa in 2003; since 2011, AIMS has opened additional centres in
Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Tanzania. AIMS is preparing to open its 6th
Centre in Kigali, Rwanda. The goal of the AIMS Next Einstein Initiative
(AIMS-NEI) is to build a pan-African network of 15 centres of excellence across
the continent by 2023.
Each AIMS centre
provides an intensive and broad education to over 50 African students each year
and prepares them for leadership careers in academia, governance and
industry.The AIMS educational program relies on top international lecturers who

Network
& System Administrator
In this role and
reporting to the IT Manager – AIMS Global Network, you will be responsible for
the planning, implementation, maintenance and daily operation of networking
infrastructure, servers and systems, ensuring the proper functioning, upgrades,
monitoring and security of the entire network and all devices attached to it.
You will aid in all
server-related activities, including setup, procurement, maintenance,
monitoring, disaster recovery and business continuity planning,
tuning/performance, and security.
This is a full-time
opportunity based at the AIMS-NEI Secretariat in Kigali, Rwanda.
Do you have
what we need?
- Bachelor’s
degree in a technical discipline, such as Computer Science or Engineering.
- 4+
years of server, networking, and desktop experience with Windows server,
Ubuntu/RedHat/Centos server.
- 5+
years doing virtualization/virtual system administration on Microsoft
Hyper-V and VMware.
- Bilingual
(French/English).
- Strong
knowledge of network and storage protocols.
- Strong
experience on Windows server and application environment like Windows
sever 2012 R2, SharePoint 2013, Microsoft Link 2013, all Window server
infrastructure, Dynamic CRM.
- MCSE /
MCTS / MCITP qualification is desirable.
- Self-sufficient
in a PC environment using MS Office and internet applications (Dropbox,
Skype, Gmail).
- Interest
in learning Linux technologies is a desired advantage.
- A
customer-service orientation; strong oral and written communication
skills.
- Ability
to work with confidential data.
- Ability
to work effectively in a team environment.
- Self-motivated
self-starter who is both able to work independently as well as take
direction and follow procedures.
- Enthusiasm
to work in a culturally diverse organisation.
- Ability
and willingness to travel within and outside of Africa with periodic stays
of up to 1 month.
- Willingness
to work outside of normal working hours, due to the geographic spread of
the Network.
