USDA Global Research Alliance Borlaug Fellowships in USA

The United States Department of  Agriculture
has announced Global Research Alliance Borlaug Fellowships for pursing 3
months research on climate change mitigation. The applicants from Colombia,
Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines and Vietnam can
apply for the fellowship. The applications must be submitted online by January
15, 2013.
Study Subject(s): The following targeted research areas are open to all of the countries
eligible for the Global Research Alliance Borlaug Fellowships:-Developing Tools
for Greenhouse Gas and Carbon Sequestration Assessments.
-Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intensity in Crop Production Systems
-Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions Intensity in Livestock Production Systems
-Developing Databases and Strategies for Synthesis, Integration and Decision
Support to Manage Greenhouse Gas Emissions and   Carbon Sequestration in
Agricultural Systems.
Course Level: The fellowship program offers training and collaborative
research opportunities.

Eligibility: To be
considered for the Borlaug Fellowship Program, candidates must:
-Be citizens of an eligible country
-Be fluent in English
-Have completed a Master’s or higher degree
-Be in the early or middle stage of their career, with at least two years of
practical experience
-Be employed by a university, government agency or research entity in their
home country
-Demonstrate their intention to continue working in their home country after
completing the fellowship.
Scholarship Open for International Students: The students from Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru,
Philippines and Vietnam can apply for this fellowship.
Scholarship Description: The U.S. Department of Agriculture is now accepting applications for
2013 Global Research Alliance Borlaug Fellowships under the auspices of the
Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellowship Program.
Fellows will be selected from eight developing countries that are members of
the Global Research Alliance (GRA) on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases. Fellows
will work with a mentor at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service or a U.S.
university for up to 3 months on climate change mitigation research. The mentor
will later travel to the fellow’s home country for up to 10 days to continue
collaboration.
Selection Criteria: Applicants are selected based on their academic and professional
research interests and achievements, level of scientific competence, aptitude
for scientific research, leadership potential, likelihood of bringing back new
ideas to their home institution, and flexibility and aptitude for success in a
cross-cultural environment. Consideration is also given to the relevance of the
applicant’s research area to the research topics highlighted in the application
announcement and to global food security and trade.
