We are looking for a creative and effective person to join our team as Regional
Coordinator – Quebec for The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security
(BFICSS). The Coordinator will implement regional programs, lead on budget
management, monitoring and evaluation in Quebec, and participate actively in
the program’s national team.
The BFICSS is building a national movement to enhance seed biodiversity, keep
seed in the public domain, and promote ecological seed production. The program
is implemented across Canada in collaboration with food and farming
organizations, farmers, researchers and other partners. The program, now in its

Duties and Responsibilities include:
Field program Management
• Implement the Quebec program plan for the 2017 field season, including:
• Liaise with partners and stakeholders
• Manage contracts with producers involved in the program
• Integrate new training or networking opportunities
• Ensure completion of all planned activities
• Collect and analyze feedback from producers in the 2017 field program
• Plan the 2018 field season with the structure of the 2017 season as a basis
• Manage the Quebec implementation of any national programs as relevant
Administration, Budget Management & Fundraising
• Manage the Quebec program budget
• Report, on a timely manner, on progress and spending to the National Program
Managers
• Perform day-to-day administration tasks as needed
• Solicit sponsorship as needed for workshops or events, and participate in
fundraising at the provincial level as relevant (less than 10% of overall
tasks)
• Oversee the roll-out of the “Seed to Flavour” project, including supervising
the consultant and linking to other program activities
Oversight:
• The employee will report to the National Program Managers, and planning for
the 2018 field season will be done in close collaboration with the National
Program Managers
• The employee will be encouraged and expected to proactively seek guidance and
help from the National Program Managers when needed
Demonstrated Skills and Qualifications:
A post-secondary degree, with concentration in a field related to seed and food
production systems, and a minimum of 3 years experience in project
coordination, organic agriculture, or agronomy.
Additional skills include:
• Strong coordination and organizational skills
• Event organization experience
• Understanding of food security and food sovereignty approaches
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with various partners
• Strong oral and written communication skills in French and English
• Ability to travel within the region on a regular basis
Working conditions:
• This position will require domestic travel to attend field days, workshops
and bi-monthly meetings at the Ottawa head office
• The majority of the work is performed at a home office
• May include moderate to long hours sitting and using computers and office
equipment
• Ability to work autonomously and sometimes nontraditional hours
• May require occasional light lifting of supplies and materials up to 20kg (or
another weight)
