Background Information – Kenya

In East Africa and Liberia
The Kenya Operations Centre (KEOC), under the Africa Regional Office, is responsible for projects entrusted to UNOPS in East Africa; its main clients include UNDP, UNICEF, UNEP, World Bank, African Union and Governments.

The Liberia Office has been set up as the implementing mechanism to deliver a range of projects in an efficient and effective manner, achieve the outcomes sought by clients, and assist in peace-building and reconstruction in the Country. UNOPS is acquiring eight(8) new vehicles for its projects for which UNOPS requires a Logistics Assistant to provide timely logistical support to the office’s vehicle operations as well as to the office management.

Background Information – Job-specific

The Logistics Assistant will work under the supervision of the Project Manager of the Liberia Office. The Logistics Assistant manages and ensures the provision of efficient and timely logistic and transportation support services to the Liberia Office. In the discharge of her or his duties, the Logistics Assistant liaises with UNOPS Project Officers, Project Associates, and Project Assistants from the Programme Management Office (PMO) in order to ensure consistency in service delivery.

The Logistics Assistant is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.

Establishment and maintenance of vehicle management system in accordance with UNOPS vehicle management policy and procedure.
Ensure the maintenance of daily inspection.(Checklist)
Ensure accurate keeping of daily vehicle logs to review and control petrol consumption and mileage.
Implementation of a repair and maintenance system for all UNOPS Office vehicles and equipment.
Ensure all transport or travel needs meet the required security arrangements.
Effective ultilization of office resources in the most cost effective manner
Participation in the training of UNOPS Liberia personnel on logistics and transport related subjects.
Process all custom clearances
Coordinate the movement of cargo and vehicles
Process the insurance and license plates for UNOPS Liberia vehicles
Reliable logistics support
Ensure compliance to IPSAS assets management
Support to knowledge building and knowledge sharing
Perform other related duties as required .

Education/Experience/Language requirements
Secondary education is required. Higher degree(Bachelor or equivalent) an asset
At least 4 years of administrative or operational experience in logistics, management and administration with demonstrated capacity to meet performance indicators and results. A minimum of 3 years with international organization (UN experience would be an advantage)
Auto-mechanics practical experience and knowledge an asset
Excellent written and spoken English.

Certifications
Prince2 or similar project management certification an asset

Contract type, level and duration
Contract type: Local ICA
Contract level: LICA 3
Contract duration: six months with possibility of extension, subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance
