Central
Glasshouse Services Unit
The Central
Glasshouse Services Unit (CGSU) is part of the Faculty of Science. It is
located at the University’s St Lucia Campus with additional resources at Long
Pocket. The facility includes external propagation and growth areas, glasshouse
space, which include environmentally controlled, PC2 and AQIS approved
quarantine areas. The main clients includ
e researchers from within the
university, with some elements for the provision of teaching material. Staff
are expected to fulfill the duties of their primary position and also to
contribute to other areas of the Central Glasshouse Services Unit activities
when necessary to ensure timely and effective support of the facility’s
clients.
The
Role
This position
supports the Central Glasshouse Services Unit (CGSU) Manager in the delivery of
quality services to teaching and research activities, operating and maintaining
all Glasshouse Services equipment and infrastructure, and provides
horticultural support to maximize plant health in line with research needs. The
requirements of statutory compliance and safety must be fulfilled as well as
having the technical knowledge and the capacity to implement it.
The
Person
The successful
applicant should have the ability to liaise with clients in a friendly and
professional manner; be able to follow instructions and work unsupervised. The
successful applicant will have either a Certificate III in horticulture or two
years relevant experience working in an accredited nursery or research glasshouses
and possess mechanical aptitude to help pinpoint mechanical issues. Preferred
qualifications for the successful applicant are to have or willingness to
obtain the following qualifications:
· Senior First Aid
Certificate
· Forklift
certificate
· Skid steer loader
certificate
· DAFF Biosecurity
Quarantine Accredited Person (QAP Accreditation)
· PC2 Training
· Agriculture
chemical application certificate
Remuneration
This is a full-time,
continuing appointment at HEW Level 3. The remuneration package will be in the
range $49,289 – $54,717 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up
to 17% (total package will be in the range $57,669 – $64,019 p.a.)
