The U.S. Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Refrigeration/Air-Conditioning Mechanic Foreman within the Facility Operations and Maintenance Section.
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
Incumbent serves as Foreman of Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Shop directing 4 (four) journeyman A/C mechanics and one Trade Helper responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of electric refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment (HVAC) and systems.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs skilled journeyman level refrigeration and Air-Conditioning mechanic work involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electric powered refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment and systems of all types including, but not limited to, industrial and residential refrigerators and freezers, cold storage equipment, dehumidifiers, water-coolers, and air-conditioning systems. Examines equipment or makes diagnostic tests to determine nature and extent of work necessary.
• Supervises and directs the disassembling of equipment and adjusts, repairs, or replaces defective parts or components to correct malfunctioning motors, compressors, cooling units, condensers, valves, relays, switches, pipers, and other controls using hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers, welding, soldering, and cutting equipment and various electric and other testing instruments.
• Periodically, ensures the inspection, testing, cleaning, and servicing of air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment. May direct PSA-Limited contractors or daily hires.
• Performs other tasks as may be directed by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship recognized as producing journeyman mechanic skills, or equivalent experience is required. .
2. Three (3) years of journeyman A/C mechanic experience is required in addition to one year supervisory experience.
3. Level III (Good Working Knowledge) of written and spoken English is required.
4. Must have full journeyman mechanic knowledge of established practices and procedures of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration trade. Must have full knowledge of the use of the various tools, standards, reading technical drawings and equipment of the trade. Full knowledge of installation, repair and maintenance is required.
5. Must have the ability to use all tools of the trade. Must have excellent mechanical skills relating to the trade. Ability to disassemble equipment and adjusts, repairs, or replaces defective parts or components to correct malfunctioning motors, compressors, cooling units, condensers, valves, relays, switches, pipers, and other controls using hand tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches and pliers.
