The U.S. Embassy is seeking an individual for the position of Generator Mechanic within the Facility Operations and
Maintenance Section
BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION:
Incumbent works as lead technician and Diesel Generator Mechanic, directing mechanical tradesmen in the maintenance and
repair of the entire Embassy’s power plant prime movers for the generation of electric power.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance services for all post generators under the supervision of
the shop foreman, utilities supervisor and lead mechanic.
2. Does the routine tests and diagnosis on gensets to determine their operating conditions according to manufacturer
specifications and advises corrective measures for maximum efficiency.
3. Serves as generator operator in the absence of duty operator.
4. Provides escort for contractor and ensures that acceptable practices are performed during contract services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training in general mechanics, including
generator repair, operations and knowledge of the various types of spare parts is required.
2. Three (3) years experience as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic and working with Caterpillar generators is required.
3. Level IV English (fluent English) is required.
4. Must have good working knowledge of internet search procedures (for researching parts, etc.). Must have the ability
to work under heavy noise (with ear protection) and in high room temperatures.
5. Must have basic driving skills and the ability to operate light trucks for moving tools and equipment between power
stations.

SELECTION PROCESS:

4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for
advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.
5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually
Employed (WAE) work schedule.
