Types of mental illness

There are many different conditions that are
recognized as mental illnesses. The more common types include
1)     Anxiety disorder: People with anxiety
disorder respond to certain objects or situation with fear as well as physical
signs of anxiety or panic, such as rapid heartbeat and sweating.

2)     Mood disorders: These disorders, also
called effective disorders, involve persistent feelings of sadness or periods
of feeling overly happy. The most common mood disorders are depression, bipolar
disorder.
3)     Psychotic disorder: These involves distorted
awareness and thinking two of the most common symptoms of psychotic disorder
are: (i) Hallucinations: The experience of image or sounds that are not real,
such as hearing voices
(ii) Delusions: Which are false beliefs that the
ill person accepts as true despite evidence to the contrary, Schizophrenia is
an example of a psychotic disorder.
4)     Eating disorders: Involves extreme emotions
altitude, and behaviours involving weight and food.
5)     Personality disorders: People with personality
disorders patients of thinking and behaviours are significantly differs from
the expectations of society and are so rigid that they interfere with the person’s
normal functioning.
6)     Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): PTSD is a condition that
can develop following a traumatic event such as a sexual or physical assault,
the unexpected death of a loved one or a natural disorders. People with PTSD
often have lasting and frightening thoughts and memories of the event and tend
to be emotional numb.
