Tugende
is a for-profit social enterprise that helps motorcycle taxi drivers in Uganda
own their own motorcycles via a fair, transparent lease-to-own model instead of
renting indefinitely. Ownership significantly increases income, job security
and road safety. Across Uganda and many other emerging markets, motorcycles
help drive the economy, mitigate traffic jams and bad roads, and offer hundreds
of thousands of jobs for those with little formal education. Tugende is proving
that millions of self-employed entrepreneurs can receive credit to own the
equipment they use to provide for their families, even without credit histories,
collateral, and in industries considered high risk by traditional lenders. We
currently serve over 3,862 customers in Kampala, Mbarara, Jinja, and Mbale. We
plan to expand to at least 10 locations in Uganda over the next 1-2 years and
then to regional neighbours which may include Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and South
Sudan.

Field Technician is a thorough professional with a practical mind and attention
to detail. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and
responsibly by conducting motorcycle procurement, pre-delivery inspections,
delivery coordination, installations, testing, repairs and maintenance of all
Tugende motorcycles.

Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete
the motorcycle procurement process including but not limited to signing
off the pre-delivery inspection notes and managing the inventory. - The
incumbent will accurately conduct pre-delivery inspection on all received
motorcycles and ensure all necessary maintenance are reported before
delivery. - Coordinate
delivery of motorcycles (including loading, paying the delivery agents,
offloading, monitoring and reporting any damages) from the supplier to
Tugende warehouse. - Accurately
capture all new motorcycle details into the system, before disbursement. - Read
and interpret equipment manuals and repair orders / instructions to
perform required maintenance and service. - Manage
all installations, repairs, maintenance and testing of motorcycle before
disbursement. - Provide
technical and maintenance services and customer support during field
visits or dispatches of motorcycles. - The
jobholder will document, share and make recommendations on status of
company assets with relevant members of the operations team based on
fieldwork discoveries. - Prepare
and submit accurate, timely and detailed service reports to the Branch
Coordinator. - Perform
any other technical related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
Skills and Experience:
- The
applicants for the Tugende Field Technician jobs should preferably hold
diplomas in; Electrical / Mechanical / Automobile Engineering, Motor
Vehicle mechanics or any other related field, obtained from a certified
and recognised institution of learning. - Exceptional
technical skills to diagnose and determine the best technical solutions
from non-technical descriptions. - Ability
to work under pressure with minimal supervision - Ability
to understand technical diagrams and manuals - Ability
to work flexible shifts and to adapt to changing work schedules - Broad
knowledge and familiarity with mobile tools and applications - Knowledge
of health and safety issues related to motorcycle use, including
electrical, mechanical and chemical risks - Strong
IT skills - Excellent
customer service skills to deal sensitively with customers - Valid
driving licence most preferably class A. - Strong
problem-solving skills - Good
organisational skills - Proficiency
in two or more local languages - High
level of professionalism and integrity - Willingness
to ride a motorcycle in a safe manner. - Tugende’s
