The Toronto Environmental Alliance is seeking a Campaigns Director.

Who We Are:
TEA was founded in 1988. Our mandate is to promote a greener Toronto. We work with concerned individuals and grassroots organizations, professionals and workers, as well as elected officials, encouraging the participation of local people on local issues. TEA envisions Toronto as a green, healthy and equitable city with economic activity that sustains our environment.

TEA is recognized locally and nationally for our municipal work on smog, waste reduction, pesticides, transit, Greenbelt protection, energy efficiency and green power — issues we believe are critical to the health and well-being of Toronto residents. Our collaborations with the community (e.g. community groups, local labour groups, small businesses, anti-poverty groups) are cherished and key to our past and future successes.

The Position:
TEA’s Campaigns Director will be play a leadership role in the organization as part of the management team, with the Executive Director. The person will be responsible for knitting together the campaign team with the outreach and communications teams to ensure that our actions are coordinated and consistent with TEA’s strategic plan and campaign goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:
• Provides leadership in all aspects of TEA’s issue-based campaigns including:
– Ensuring campaigns reflect the strategic priorities of the organization while responding to current discussions and debates within Toronto on our issues
– Leading campaign staff as they develop, implement and evaluate campaign strategies
– Hiring campaign staff as per hiring policy
– Leading campaigns that cross multiple issue areas
– Identifying opportunities for new campaigns on issues that meet with TEA’s priorities
– Working with the Executive Director to develop partnerships and funding opportunities for campaigns
– Developing and maintaining key relationships with external partners and funders.

• Coordinates TEA’s communications to the media and the public to ensure our messaging is consistent with our campaign goals
• Oversees our community engagement activities to ensure they are used effectively to meet campaign goals
• Takes the lead in human resources for the campaign and outreach teams including overseeing the development, implementation and review of work plans
• Works closely with the Canvass Director and fundraising staff to ensure campaign and outreach activities reinforce and are reinforced by door canvassers and fundraising activities.

Qualifications:
• Extensive experience in developing, organizing and implementing issue-based campaigns, preferably in Toronto (environmental experience is a definite asset)
• Demonstrated program/project management experience
• Demonstrated human resources management experience
• Demonstrated experience in municipal politics (Toronto experience is a definite asset)
• Demonstrated experience in community engagement
• Excellent media relations skills and understanding of how a press gallery works
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Experience with social media and other online engagement tools will be considered an asset

Terms of employment:
This is a full-time permanent position. Compensation will be based on the skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate and will be in the range of $60,000 to $70,000 per year.
