Security Guard
(5 permanent full-time positions & 2 permanent part-time positions)

Reporting to the Security Group Leader, the Security Guard will be responsible for ensuring the protection of all Board properties and assets, and the safety of all Board staff, students and community members as they relate to Board properties. These positions will involve assisting Facility Services management staff by reporting and investigating situations on Board sites that are potentially of an illegal or criminal nature.

As a Security Guard, you will:
• respond to, and investigate alarms
• conduct physical checks of Board properties
• respond to community complaints related to Board properties
• assist Emergency Services
• liaise with all Board staff and with school administration
• intervene in prohibited or illegal activities on Board properties
• monitor and control access and use of Board properties
• communicate with the police and fire departments, providing and requesting information as necessary
• dispatch security guard via two-way radio communications system and direct them through their response to incidents
• ensure that adequate computer records of patrols and incidents are initiated, maintained and/or completed
• maintain communications with the Security Group Leader, as necessary or directed.

To take on the role of Security Guard, you must have:
2-year community college diploma and certificate in Law Enforcement with 1 to 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
sound understanding of law enforcement
working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, the Trespass to Property Act, The Liquor License Act of Ontario, and municipal by-laws
experience operating a motor vehicle in an alarm response mode
experience with the technical and operational aspects of alarm systems
experience dealing with confrontation and violence
experience with diverse social and cultural needs in the community
experience in reacting to emergency situations
experience recognizing criminal offences and evidence, and preserving such evidence
ability to work in “emotionally charged” environments such as large public gatherings
basic computer skills
ability to undertake first-line response independently in emergency situations.

FULL-TIME HOURS OF WORK (schedules subject to change):
Start and end time of shift may vary, based on operational needs.
Evening shifts: Monday to Friday (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.)
Saturday, Sunday and Statutory Holidays (8 p.m. to 8 a.m.)
Afternoon shifts: Monday to Friday (12 noon to 8 p.m.)
Saturday, Sunday and Statutory Holidays (12 noon to 8 p.m.)
Day shifts: Monday to Friday (6 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
Saturday, Sunday and Statutory Holidays (6 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

PART-TIME HOURS OF WORK (schedules subject to change):
24 hours per week (8 a.m. – 8 p.m.), Saturday, Sunday (plus Statutory Holidays)
