The Special Events Coordinator is a Canada Summer
Jobs grant position based on a 8-week contract at OPIRG-Brock. This position is
responsible for the planning and preparation of activities that will span the
beginning of the fall term, including Orientation Week with the hope to instill
a sense of community in participants and encourage volunteering for social
justice projects at Brock and beyond. In addition, the Special Events
Coordinator is expected to help with the general maintenance of their work
environment, the OPIRG-Brock Office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of Orientation Week
    Activities emphasizing a sense of community
  • Assist in the coordination of recruiting new
    volunteers for social justice projects at Brock
  • Assist the promotions and volunteer
    coordination of summer programming and projects
  • Research and plan exciting new events to to
    engage new Brock University students
  • Update and maintain social media sites and
    communication channels for events
  • Maintain office hours and complete other
    general office duties as needed
Canada Summer Jobs Grant Position Requirements
  • Applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of
    age;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in
    the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time
    basis in the next academic year;
  • are Canadian citizens or permanent residents
    or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and
    Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada, according
    to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Job Details and Contract
Hours: 30 hours/week
Period of Employment: 2013/06/30 – 2013/08/31 (8
weeks)
Wage: $12.00/hour
