The Cottage Gardener Heirloom Seedhouse is a farm-based, family-owned
seed company that specializes in providing organic, heirloom seeds to
home gardeners and small farmers. We offer almost 700 varieties of
rare and endangered vegetables, herbs & flowers and ship our seeds to
customers across Canada and internationally.
We have an opening on our team for the upcoming 2014-15 season. This
contract position will run from September until April, with possible
extension. You will be primarily re
sponsible for inventory management,
order processing and shipping, although as an integral member of a
small team, you will be expected to pitch in wherever there is a need.
Primary Duties:
• maintain the inventory management system, using spreadsheets and
databases. This includes recording all incoming shipments, assigning
lot numbers, storing bulk seed, recording all packaged seed and
ensuring efficient tracking and reconciliation of all inventory
• process completed orders using Quickbooks
• prepare orders for shipping, including working with Canada Post’s
electronic shipping software
• act as back-up to the primary customer service staff by answering
the phone, fielding customer questions and taking customer orders
• assist in maintaining company website and social media presence
• other administrative duties as required
What We’re Looking For
• excellent computer skills and experience in working with Google+
with spreadsheets, databases & word processing
• working knowledge of processing orders with Quickbooks or similar
accounting programs
• experience working in shipping and receiving is an asset
• excellent attention to detail
• an appreciation of the urgency of processing and shipping orders in
a timely and accurate manner; an ability to work to tight deadlines in
a fast-paced environment
• self-directed; ability to work independently and multi-task with
minimal supervision
• proven ability to work well with others as an integral member of a
small, co-operative team
• excellent customer relations skills
• knowledge of heirloom seed varieties and experience in growing from
seed is an asset
The Position:
This is a contract position that will start at 4 days/week and
increase to 5 days/week as of January 1st (or earlier, depending on
demand)
Pay: $13.00/hour
Note: we are in a rural environment; you must have your own transportation
