Abstract
This study was based on teachers’ and students’
perception of problems of effective teaching and learning of physical education
in selected junior secondary schools in Ogwashi-Uku. To guide this study, four
research questions and hypotheses were drawn and formulated. The research
questions include: Are there possible
problems in teaching and learning of effective teaching and learning of
physical education in junior secondary schools in Ogwashi-Uku? And the
hypotheses include: There would be no significant relationship on problems of
effective teaching and learning of physical education in junior secondary
schools in Ogwashi-Uku. Thereafter, relevant literature were reviewed while the
descriptive survey research method was used for the study. The proportionate
and random sampling technique will be used to select a sample size of 150
respondents from the total population. The instrument for data collection will
be structured questionnaire. The data collected were analysed using the
frequency distribution table, percentage and chi-square (x2)
statistics at alpha 0.05 level of significance to test the hypotheses. The data
collected revealed that there are problems in teaching and learning of
effective teaching and learning of physical education in junior secondary
schools in Ogwashi-Uku. Based on this, the researcher recommends that there
should be effort to offer a variety and choice of physical education classes so
that students’ age, gender, disability, needs and interests are taken into
consideration.
