We are seeking applications for a community

Purpose of the position
This is a part-time, time-limited role designed to
support leaders from local organisations to develop opportunities for staff,
volunteers and members of the organisations to engage in conversations with and
about asylum seekers. The purpose of the project is to enable people from
across Sydney to engage in more measured discussion and reflection about asylum
seeking away from the glare of media and partisan politics.

Key responsibilities
- Work with organisational leaders to identify
the relevance of asylum seekers to their mission and identify occasions
when their respective membership is gathered in large numbers and can
include a specific initiative on a conversation about asylum seeking. - Prepare resources and guides to assist
organisations in holding asylum seeker conversation sessions, taking into
account the relevant traditions and practices of community groups, unions
and faith-based organisations. - Work with Sydney Alliance members who support
asylum seekers, to develop a pool of people to share their stories and
experiences and are willing to participate in conversations held in other
organisations. - Assist organisational leaders by connecting
them with individuals with experience in asylum seeking, who can address
gatherings as needed.
Selection criteria
- Strong interpersonal and liaison skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Self starter and open to challenge.
- Experience working in civil society
organisations and building connections across diversity. - Candidates must have a car and a
current drivers licence.
Selection Criteria – Highly desirable
- experience in or knowledge of asylum seeker
issues. - completed our National 6 day Training.
- Additional language skills.
- This role is part-time and may be well suited
to someone returning to work after parental leave or someone who can do
this part-time role alongside another part-time role.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is approximately $65 000 pro rata
(plus superannuation) depending on experience.
