Summary

The liver is the largest
organ in the body weight approximately 1.5 kg. It is responsible for the
processing of nutrients, breaking down of toxins, production of essential
protein and the removal of waste product from the blood. Chronic liver diseases
are diseases that affect the liver causing destruction to the liver which could
lead to fibrosis and cirrhosis. There are over seventeen (17) types of chronic
liver diseases all over the world. Chronic liver disease can be caused by virus
such as the HCV (hepatitis C virus) and HBV(hepatitis B virus) excess chemical
in the body, excess intake of alcohol, hepatoxic medications, herbal remedies.

In addition, there are
people that are prone to chronic liver disease which are the obese, health care
professional who are exposed to body fluid, those who have tattoos, those
having unprotected sex, chronic alcohol drinkers and those working with toxic
chemicals without wearing safety clothes. Chronic liver disease is associated
with symptoms such as tiredness, nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss, vomiting
blood, easy bruising, ascites (swollen in the stomach), yellow eyes(jaundice)
and Oedema (swollen legs). Although. Chronic liver disease can still be
prevented by total abstinence from alcohol, involving in exercise in order to
reduce weight especially the overweight and obese, assessing of medications,
vitamins and remedies for safety purpose.
Lastly, this disease can be
managed with the use of diet by placing the affected patient on low fat diet,
high carbohydrate diet, moderate protein diet, no salt diet and controlled
calorie diet.
