The issue child abuse is on the increase in Ughelli
metropolis and needed urgent attention because of it linkage to the rise in
youth violence. It is now commonplace to see children been abused by their parents or caregivers
through their action or failing to act thereby causing injury, death, emotional
harm or risk of serious harm to children.

The occurrence of this abuse have given rise
to many children running away from homes to seek succour with other equally
abused children who had abandon their homes. This situation exposed children to
the risk of drugs and alcohol abuse, engage in teenage
prostitution, engage in cultism, other delinquent behaviours, criminal
tendencies and commit sexual assault crimes.

researcher intends to carry out this research work to investigate child abuse
and its corollaries in increasing youth violence in Ughelli metropolis, Ughelli
North Local Government Area, Delta State.
