 Food
and Nutrition Security Data Collectors
 SNV

businesses, and organizations with the tools, knowledge, and connections they

much experience in making agriculture more sustainable by developing knowledge,
tools, and solutions that maximize the benefits while minimizing the negative
impacts of agriculture in the face of a changing climate. SNV has worked on
horticulture sector development – including quality and safety improvements and
certification – in 15 different countries.
SNV
in Rwanda supports producer organizations, processors and agro-businesses
in coffee, potato, value chains, food & nutrition security and advocacy
(Voice4Change) in order to increase income and employment opportunities as well
as contribute to food and nutrition security. SNV experts apply a value chain
development approach, promote market-based solutions to increase overall
competitiveness and tap into opportunities while protecting the environment.
SNV also strengthens business service providers within the agriculture value
chains.
 Project
Overview
The
HortInvest project is funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Kigali and will
contribute towards the attainment of the mission of the Rwanda National
Horticulture Policy in terms of fast economic growth and rapid reduction in
poverty and malnutrition in Rwanda and the objectives of the Rwanda-Dutch
bilateral programme aimed at enhanced food security and private sector
development. The expected impact will be primarily noticeable in six target
districts: Rubavu, Nyabihu, Karongi, Rutsiro, Muhanga, and Ngororero.
The
main areas of intervention of the HortInvest project are:
  1. Improving
    market-led horticultural production and supplies for domestic and regional
    markets
  2. Enhancing
    food and nutrition security of rural households involved in horticulture
    and urban consumers
  3. Developing
    high-value horticultural exports
  4. Creating
    an enabling environment for commercial horticultural developments
After
its completion, the HortInvest project is expected to have contributed to the
following two impacts:
  1. The
    horticultural sector’s relative contribution to the regional rural economy
    in the six target districts will have significantly increased.
  2. Improved
    food and nutrition security of poor households in selected communities in
    the six target districts.
Position
Summary
The
HortInvest project is looking for data collectors (15-20) for the food and
nutrition security baseline. The enumerators are working under the
direct supervision of the HortInvest Nutrition District Coordinators and
the HortInvest Monitoring and Evaluation advisor and Nutrition
advisor. The enumerators will have sufficient skills, experience and
flexibility to support the HortInvest project with data collection of food and
nutrition security related data in the six HortInvest districts (Karongi,
Muhanga, Ngororero, Nyabihu, Rubavu, Rutsiro).
Responsibilities
of the district horticulture coordinators
  1. Data
    collection of food and nutrition security baseline using an application on
    a smartphone.
  2. Work
    in a team to make sure all data is collected in an area before moving to
    the next area. Data will be collected in six specific areas within the six
    HortInvest districts, in which a random sampling methodology will be used
    to select households.
  3. Work
    in close coordination with the rest of the HortInvest district team and
    data collectors, including the team in Kigali.
  4. Arranging
    of own transport and accommodation during data collection in the different
    areas.
Candidate
profile
  1. Strong
    experience in the collection of food and
    nutrition security-related data (Dietary Diversity, Nutrition
    Knowledge Attitude and Practice etc.) with an application on a mobile
    device.
  2. In
    possession of a smartphone that runs (with minimum Android version
    4.0.3 or newer, have GPS, adequate storage (at least 1Gb,
    either internal or through SD card) a camera, 3G/WiFi/micro USB
    connection, good battery and adequate screen size (at least
    3.7 inches)). 
  3. Bachelor’s
    degree in Human Nutrition or related field
  4. Communication,
    management, and interpersonal skills required.
  5. Result
    oriented and problem-solving capacity.
  6. Prepared
    to travel widely and undertake substantial fieldwork within Rwanda.
  7. Excellent
    English and Kinyarwanda writing and oral communication skills.
Contract
duration
The
consultant contract will be for approximately 15 days. The contract covers a
daily fee that includes transport and accommodation to the data collection
sites.

October
8, 2018.
