Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea Assistant Educator Job Vacancy in Sidney, Greater Victoria, BC


The Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea is a registered not-for-profit organization,
located in Sidney BC. This aquarium of the Salish Sea features local species of
fish and invertebrates and strives to be a catalyst for building a healthy and
sustainable Salish Sea Bioregion, through learning and engagement.

The Opportunity
The Assistant Educator reports directly to the Director of Learning. The
Assistant Educator will ensure that a high quality of visitor experience is
provided. This is a Sunday/Monday position. The primary role of the Educator is
to:
• Provide superior customer service to the Centre’s visitors.
• Coordinate and present public programming, including but not limited to
storytimes, Creature Features, crafts and scavenger hunts.
• Supervise and mentor volunteers in their various roles throughout the Centre.
• Facilitate and teach programs geared towards preschoolers through highschool,
as well as, lead guided tours through the Centre.
• Provide and maintain a safe, positive and clean work environment.

Expected Qualifications
The successful candidate should have the following skills:
• Experience in customer service.
• An understanding of the biological and/or environmental sciences, either
through practical experience or formal education.
• Some knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Salish Sea.
• Experience with public programming and interpretation.
• Experience or certification in Early Childhood Education.
• Supervisory experience would be valuable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• A passion for the ocean and what we are doing to champion it.
