PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Reporting to the Education Coordination and
Partnerships Manager,
the Education
Signature Programme Assistant
will contribute to the planning and implementation
of the Programme and its different literacy projects, including: First Read,
First Steps, Early Literacy and Maths Initiative (ELMI), Rwandan Children’s
Book Initiative (RCBI) and Literacy Boost. The purpose of this role is to
ensure effective programme delivery by providing efficient and timely programme
management assistance and communications support.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Programme Management Support
Ensuring
efficient and timely support to the Education Signature Programme team, the
Education Signature Programme Assistant will:
  • Provide hands on support to the different
    projects, including:  Supporting the organisation and implementation
    of workshops, training and meetings;
  • Ensure that project files are established and
    maintained in an easy, orderly and accessible way; etc;
·         Lead on the organisation/ preparation for
Programme-relevant International days/ events e.g International Literacy Day,
Universal Children’s Day, The Day of the African Child, etc
  • Support monitoring of implementation progress
    according to the programme and project implementation plans;
  • Support cross-project learning and assist in
    the planning of future project interventions through participation in
    research activities, exploring opportunities and gaps, etc;
  • Assist in translation needs.
Communications Support
Support in programme
communications work, including:
·         Act as a liaison with our partners on communication
and information-sharing issues;
  • Produce the Signature Programme Quarterly
    Newsletter
  • Develop and coordinate content generation for SP
    Social Media accounts
  • Produce content for the SCI Rwanda website, as
    well as social media accounts;
  • Manage the SP Social Media accounts, ensuring quality,
    frequent and consistent information sharing;
  • Maintain a well organised SP photo bank that is
    easy to use;
  • Keep a record of SP work coverage in the media;
·         Support in visits of the Regional Communications
Producer;
·         Produce Case Stories for use in reporting as well as
internal and external communications;
  • Document and disseminate meeting minutes;
  • Design, produce and update SC brochures, posters,
    and other promotional materials;
  • Work closely with the procurement and logistics
    team on Programme related procurement and logistics activities;
  • Coordinate International Technical Advisors (TAs)
    visits to the SCI Rwanda office.
Reporting
·         Support the Signature Programme in pulling together
different information required for reporting purposes;
·         Lead on printing, custody and dissemination of all
Signature Programme reports;
·         Participate in organising dissemination activities.
Other
  • Assist the Education Signature Programme
    office with other day-to-day activities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
·        
University degree in education, media or relevant social sciences;
  • Demonstrated experience (1 year or more) in supporting the planning and
    implementation of programmes in an international development/NGO context;
  • A sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities for
    literacy acquisition in Rwanda;
  • Strong conceptual skills and the ability to think innovatively and
    plan strategically;
  • Excellent communication skills, including fluency in written and
    spoken English and Kinyarwanda, and strong inter-personal skills;
  • Understanding of and commitment to SCI mission, values and child
    rights-based programming approaches;
  • Ability to work successfully and efficiently with minimal
    supervision and strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, content
    management systems and web based communication
Desirable
  • Experience in working in communications and/or event organisation
    in an NGO setting
  • Experience in working for / in the interests of children;
  • Basic understanding of key issues in the field of literacy, the
    literate environment and/or early grade reading.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced, result-oriented and
    culturally-diverse work environment.
