PURPOSE
OF POSITION:
The
role of the Pharmacy Assistant is to support the Pharmacy Coordinator in
ensuring that the aspects of the health programme, in terms of drugs and
consumables and supplies, are implemented to a high quality and in line with
organisational and international standards.
KEY
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
  • Participates
    in the definition of strategies for supply, management, distribution and
    use of medical products in the supported Health Facility, in line with
    UNHCR and SCI storage / distribution standards.
  • Ensure
    timely and appropriate provision of  high quality and adequate
    pharmacy supplies  to the Health Centre in Mahama Refugee Camp and
    Save the Children supported health facilities through:
  • Assessment
    of pharmacy needs including storage and security in health facilities
  • Completion 
    of drug consumption tools to be rolled out across facilities
  • Institutionalize
    the established consumption based monitoring systems in the supported
    facility 
  • Analysis
    of morbidity data Vs. drug consumption data to asses rational prescription
    levels of the consulting staff
  • Liaising
    with health team regarding the distribution and management of drugs
  • Working
    closely with logistics team to ensure pharmaceutical are appropriately
    stored as per the manufacturers recommended room temperature
  • Assist
    in the establishment of a well-functioning pharmacy warehouse including:
  • Assist
    in  ensuring the medical warehouse is well stocked and well organised
  • Assist
    in ensuring ordering is undertaken in an systematic and timely manner
  • Jointly
    with the Pharmacist officer ensures respect for Good Distribution
    Practices for Pharmaceutical Products (GDPs) at coordination/project stock
    level, whether centralised or decentralised
  • Ensures
    respect for Good Distribution Practices for Pharmaceutical Products and
    good dispensing practices in end user units
  • Ensure
    relevant information is shared in a timely manner through regular meetings
    with all stakeholders
  • Other
    duties as assigned by line manager
  • Comply
    with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child
    protection, code of conduct health and safety, equal opportunities and
    other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Pharmacy
    Technician or Health Care Worker with relevant experience in pharmacy
    management (at health facility level)
  • Government
    of Rwanda certification.
  • Good
    experience in setting up and analysis of pharmaceutical  monitoring
    systems
  • Previous
    experience of working in role with MoH or NGO desirable
  • Good
    understanding of broad health issues within affected Refugee Population
  • Good
    understanding of local humanitarian context
  • Fluency
    in English and Kinyarwanda
  • Knowledge
    of French desirable
  • Strong
    organisational skills

    interpersonal skills with ability to work in multi-cultural environment
  • Able
