Contract
length:

Until late 2018

The role
Save the Children are bidding for a £22m nutrition project through DfID to
Reduce the number of stunted children by 10% (80,000) in the targeted regions
within a period of 5 years.

Outcomes are
anticipated to be:


1. Improved maternal, infant and young child feeding practices;
2. Enhanced quality of nutrition services through the health system;
3. Improved household access to diverse and nutrient rich foods through own
production and purchased from the local market;
4. Improved multi-sectoral response to nutrition at sub-national levels
(Agriculture, WASH, Education, Community Development, Livelihoods);

The Chief of Party
will have overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the
project. S/he will ensure that planning, budgeting, implementation, monitoring
and evaluation as well as donor reporting functions are executed efficiently
and effectively to ensure that the project achieves its purposes and outputs.
S/he will co-ordinate the process of learning, capturing and disseminating
lessons from the project.

They will lead and
manage a multi-disciplinary team including virtual and matrix management across
the globe of in-country technical teams to deliver project objectives set out
in the donor terms of reference, our technical and commercial proposals and the
logical framework.

Qualifications
and experience

Essential

  • Prior
    experience of delivering large scale nutrition or other social sector
    donor funded programmes;
  • Masters’
    in nutrition, health or related field;
  • Minimum
    of 10 years’ experience in programming in nutrition, health or related
    area an international development environment;
  • Demonstrated
    leadership and management skills in a complex international setting;
  • Highly
    diplomatic and emotionally intelligent with strong oral and written
    communication skills;
  • Strong
    knowledge of Tanzania context, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) priorities in
    Tanzania;
  • Experience
    in successfully establishing and managing collaborative relationships and
    partnerships with donors and government counterparts at a senior level;
  • Proven
    ability to manage consortia with a minimum of 4 years’ experience managing
    multi-agency programmes;
  • Sound
    understanding of different methodologies of M&E and operational
    research and experience in developing integrated M&E and Learning
    systems;
  • Proven
    experience of managing large multi-million pound budgets and management of
    risk;
  • Proven
    ability to lead, motivate, retain and manage a diverse team of
    professionals;
  • Experience
    of effective team work and outstanding inter-personal communication
    skills;
  • Commitment
    to the values, missions, aims and policies of Save the Children;

Desirable

  • Substantial
    experience of working and living in Africa, ideally with professional
    experience in Tanzania country;
  • Demonstrable
    understanding of Value for Money and DFID results agenda;
  • Ability
    to coach and mentor multi-sectoral partners;
  • Fluency
    in Swahili;
