A Management
position exists within Tongaat Hulett Botswana and suitable applications are
invited for the position of SHE OFFICER

Qualification
& experience
: Degree in SHE Management and or appropriate
SHE qualifications such as Certificate in IS
O 14001 & OHSAS 18001
Implementation and ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 Auditors qualification, SAMTRAC.

Job
specification/requirements:

  • Must
    have 5 years SHE related experience preferably in the food industry in a
    private sector, 2 years of which should have been at management level.
  • A
    strong work ethics; self-motivated, self-disciplined, self-starter with a
    high level of urgency.
  • Sound
    skills and experience in Risk Assessment, Incident Investigations &
    health and Safety internal auditing process.
  • Integral
    audit experience on Integrated ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 systems.
  • Awareness
    and practical experience of Behavioural Based Safety.
  • Good
    knowledge of application of legislation including understanding of
    international safety best practice.
  • Must
    have good administrative and computer skills (Ms Office).

Requirements


Main duties of
the job include:

Responsible for coordination of the health, safety & environment procedure,
polices, legislation and best practices to ensure that they are implemented and
adhered to. Provide support on planning, monitoring and reviewing the
preventative measures to ensure a safe, healthy & environmentally friendly
workplace.

Key
performance areas include:

Ability to develop,
implement, and coordinate comprehensive health, safety, environment, and
sustainability programme.
  • Enforces
    compliance with SHE policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Investigates
    and completes the process of incident investigation and properly close off
    the incident report.
  • Keeps
    up to date with new legislation and ensuring compliance with local legal
    regulations and other requirements.
  • Ensures
    regular emergency response exercises and drills are conducted to ensure
    the highest level of preparedness in any emergency. Maintains records of
    such drills & provides recommendations for improvements.
  • Co-ordinates
    and participates in the pre-task risk assessment, risk assessment,
    incident investigations & ensures closure of investigations and
    formulate actions to prevent repeat of similar incidents in the future.
  • Ensures
    that SHE monthly meetings, SHE monthly reports including SHE Management
    Review meetings are held as scheduled.
  • Ensures
    effective SHE communication to employees, customers, contractor and
    relevant stakeholders.
