Job Title: Director of Flight Operations

Reporting: General Manager Operations
Key tasks:
Overall responsibility for the conduct of flight operations
Information reporting as appropriate to the General Manager Operations relating to flight operations
RCAA liaison and direction relating to flight operations
Review and update of the Flight Operations Manual Suite
Monitoring of the Training and Checking Organisation
Produce and amend documents, liaising with the RCAA regarding such manuals and their approval when required relating to flight operations
The supervision of, by delegation, to the dispatchers, flight and route planning data and information to pilots, and load and trim sheet design
Ensure all incidents, accidents, occurrence reports, relating to flight operations are advised to the authority and any other appropriate person or organisations as necessary
Exercise disciplinary authority over all flight personnel, and recruit and select pilots
Ensure by delegation to the dispatchers compliance with specific loading procedures
Ensure a complete and up to date reference library is available to crew
Grant approval in relation to persons not employed by the airline, to be trained by company staff and undertake company courses
Provide control of operational information, so as to keep pilots and other relevant staff advised of all operational requirements
Liaise with outside agencies relevant to company line operations
Ensuring that the flight crew are qualified for the area and type of operation
Ensuring the validation of flight crew licenses and other mandatory flight crew documents applicable to the operation,
Ensuring that every flight is conducted in accordance with the provisions of the operations manual
Maintaining the flight and route planning data and information to flight crew, and load and trim sheet design
Coordinating risk assessments
Providing specialist performance support in relation to company aircraft
Communicate the objectives and application of the SMS to all persons engaged in flight operations
Solicit and process safety improvement suggestions
Assist with the investigation of accidents and incidents.
Authorities:
Procurement of flight operations related capital in accordance with the company budgets
Selection of third party service providers
Performance evaluation of direct reports
Accountabilities:
Safety of the operation with regards to flight operations
Air Operators Certificate
Recruitment and selection of flight operations personnel
Required skills:
Held a Command on the B737 aircraft or equivalent
10,000 hours of flight at least half on Boeing or equivalent
Ability to manage complex tasks associated with airline operations
Ability to manage large numbers of personnel including flight crew
Self-motivation
Communication skills
Required Education and Experience:
Airline Transport Pilots Licence
B737 NG Endorsement
3 Years operating experience as Pilot in Command of B737NG or other Boeing equivalent as approved by the safety authority
Extensive experience in an airline flight operations management role
A university degree in air safety management or any other related fields
