On Thursday, Rwanda and the World Bank signed a US$ 200 million (approximately Rwf180 billion) loan funding contract to support quality fundamental schooling needed for the growth of human resources.
The contract was signed at the former headquarters in Kigali by Dr. Uzziel Ndagijimana, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and Yasser El-Gammal, World Bank Country Manager
The project’s primary goal is to enhance teacher skills and student retention and learning.
The project consists of three primary parts that include, Ndagijimana said, improving teacher efficiency to improve student learning, decreasing overcrowding and distance to classrooms, and strengthening organizational ability to promote teaching and learning.
The development was announced in May as Hafez Ghanem, World Bank for Africa’s Vice President, met with Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente at the Kimihurura office of the latter.
