On behalf of the Government of Rwanda, the National Bank of Rwanda will host the 42nd Annual Meetings of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) at the Kigali Convention Center from 28 July – 1 August 2019.
The AACB was formed in 1963 at the African Heads of State and Government Summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, working under the auspices of the African Union, the Association of African Central Banks. It aims at encouraging collaboration in the African region’s monetary, banking and economic fields as well as foreseeing the arrival of a single currency and a common central bank.
A symposium will precede the AACB’s 42nd ordinary session on 31 July 2019. The symposium will discuss and share experiences on a macroeconomic stability theme, entitled “Rising African Sovereign Debt: Implications for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability”.
The symposium will host over 400 attendees including African Central Bank Governors and senior employees, national economy policy makers, development partners, players in the economic industry, academia, think tanks, and African Regional Economic Communities officials.
The symposium aims to promote exchanges between economic policy makers and other participants. Discussions will include sovereign debt management approaches based on lessons learned in Africa and other parts of the globe. The debates will also concentrate on African countries ‘ problems with a perspective to maintaining debt at a sustainable level while funding the growth agenda.
The National Bank of Rwanda will host the Central Bank of the East African Community Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC) meeting on 30 July 2019 before the AACB meetings.
