River Management Young Achievers Award (RMYAA) in Australia

Thiess in partnership with the International
Riversymposium and International Water Centre Alumni Network (IWCAN) sponsoring
the River Management Young Achievers Award (RMYAA). The winner will
receive AUD $3000, with each runner up receiving AUD $250. Domestic or
international professionals or students aged 35 or under on 5 July 2013 with at
least 2 years’ experience in a river related sector are eligible.
Applicants must have demonstrated leadership and positive outcomes in a
river-related area. Students can apply electronically.
Study Subject(s): The award
recognises individual waterway or river management contribution .
Course Level: River Management Young Achievers Award provides an
opportunity to the finalists to receive the deserved recognition for
their accomplishments. The finalists will present their case study at the
16th International Riversymposium.
Scholarship Provider: Funded by Thiess and managed by the International
Water Centre Alumni Network (IWCAN)

Eligibility:-Domestic
or international professionals or students aged 35 or under (at the time of
entry) with at least 2 years’ experience in a river-related sector who:
– Demonstrate leadership and positive outcomes in a river-related area (e.g. a
new catchment management initiative, setting up a new waterway group) or can
showcase outstanding research in a water/river related field;
– If selected as a finalist, are available to attend the 16th International
Riversymposium; and
Scholarship Open for Students of Following
Countries
: Domestic or international professionals or
students are eligible for apply.
Scholarship Description: Often, achievement is done by those who are working either
individually or as a team. Candidates are encouraged to apply if they have
accomplished river management goals in a team or group project. Be sure to
articulate what role you played as a member of the team and how you
demonstrated leadership or achievement. This year the award will be dedicated
to Dr Peter Oliver. Teacher, social scientist, scholar, researcher, activist,
pioneer, visionary, mentor, friend . He was a man who walked, talked and
breathed his vision of true integrated water management. Find out more about

Number of award(s): A maximum of three finalists will be selected.
What does it cover? To recognize the importance of this award, the winner receives AU$3,000
with each of the runners up receiving AU$250. Each of the finalists have the
opportunity to present their work at the International Riversymposium each
year.Finalist Recognition & Benefits:
– Complimentary full registration to the 16
th International Riversymposium(inclusive of attendance to the
conference, Welcome Function and RiverprizeGala Dinner)*.
-The opportunity to present your work as part of Riversymposium program.
– Recognition as a finalist through your biography being available on the
Riversymposium and IWCAN websites.
-Promotion as a finalist through the Riversymposiumand IWCANeNews.
-Your biography displayed for the duration of the conference in the delegates’
area.
– In addition to the recognition of winning the River Management Young
Achievers Award, the winner will receive
AUD $3000 prize money; with runners up each receiving AUD $250.
-The winner will appear in an article in the Thiess, Riversymposiumand IWCAN
newsletters post conference
Selection Criteria: A maximum of three finalists will be selected through the
evaluation of a written descriptive case study demonstrating leadership
and project achievements (e.g. a new catchment management initiative, setting
up a new waterway group where you played a significant role) or showcasing
significant research as part of a Masters or PhD program. An independent
expert panel of judges will select the finalists.
Notification: The results of stage one of the judging are announced by email to the
candidates. The selected finalists then proceed to stage two of the
judging. Entrants will be advised if they are finalists by 9th August
2013. To progress to the final assessment, the finalists are required to
attend the Riversymposium. The finalists will present their work in a
short oral presentation to an audience that includes the judges during
the Riversymposium. The winner will be announced during the Riverprize
Gala Dinner.
