Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation is defined
as the combined and co-ordinated use of medical use of medical, social,
educational and vocational measures for training and returning the individual
to the highest possible level of functional ability.

It includes all measures
aimed at reducing the impact of disabling, handicapping conditions and at
enabling the disabled and handicapped to achieve social integration.
There are different forms
of rehabilitation namely;

Medical rehabilitation – Restoration of
functions.
·        
Psychological rehabilitation – Restoration of
personal dignity.
·        
Vocational rehabilitation – Restoration of the
ability to earn a living.
·        
Social rehabilitation – Restoration of family
and social relations.
Agencies in Charge Of Rehabilitation in Nigeria
There are some agencies in
Nigeria that are set up to give some forms of rehabilitation services. They
include;
1.)  National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA):  They are set up to rehabilitate HIV/AIDS
victims by removing inferiority complex and make them functional and productive
members of the society.
2.)  Ministry of Nigeria Delta Affairs: They are responsible for the
rehabilitation of repentant Niger Delta militants to provide them with
necessary training in order to integrate them into the society.
3.)  Nigerian Prisons Services (NPS): They provide convicted
people in the prisons with valuable vocations skills and trades in order to rehabilitate
them fully into the society upon expiration of their jail terms.
4.)  Ministry of Women Affairs and Social
Development:
They are responsible for the rehabilitation of women
and girls with various feminine issues.
5.)  Nigerian Immigration Services and the Ministry
if Internal Affairs:
They are responsible for the rehabilitation of
people deported from other countries for various offenses by providing them
with the necessary training in order to reintegrate then into the society.
6.)  National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA):  They are responsible for the rehabilitation of
people with drug addition by managing their situation to make them recover and
be responsible people in the society and also punish defaulters with drug
related crimes in a bit to reforming them.
7.)  National Agency for the Prohibition of
Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP):
 They
re-unite trafficked victims with their family and also rehabilitate then to
move on with life.
