Project Summary
RAIN: An ecological approach to stormwater management is a multi-community project of Green Communities Canada and its members, including REEP Green Solutions, to reduce the impact of stormwater on lakes and rivers in the Province of Ontario. The Manager of the RAIN Program in Kitchener and Waterloo will work as a member of the REEP staff to implement an expanded extensive community-wide program that will motivate and achieve stormwater abatement. The program will reduce volume and non-point source pollution entering the Grand River and its tributaries in the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo via intensive community-based social marketing and financial incentives for landowners. An additional goal is to demonstrate a stormwater source reduction model that can and will be adapted and replicated in other municipalities.
Responsibilities
• Manages the development and implementation of local programming to include partnership development and liaison, human resources, budgeting/expense tracking, marketing, media and communications, volunteer recruitment, fundraising, information materials, learning and action workshops and training;
• Develops subcontractor relationships, writes contracts and manages them to their successful completion;
• Reports weekly to the Executive Director of REEP Green Solutions and the GCC RAIN Program Manager;
• Identifies and addresses challenges and troubleshoots difficulties, addressing issues in timely manner;
• Tracks results on an ongoing basis, analyzes findings, makes recommendations on future programming;
• Prepares comprehensive reports semi-annually with the assistance of the GCC RAIN Program Manager.
Qualifications
• 5-10 years experience implementing, tracking and managing community-based programming with quantifiable environmental benefits/results;
• Demonstrated skills and experience in successful project management and staff supervision, leading a team to meet deliverables and deadlines;
• Excellent financial management skills including accurate budgeting, expense tracking and analysis/reporting of variances;
• Excellent communication skills including written, oral presentation, social networking;
• Knowledge of water quality issues and stormwater best management practices (both low impact development and retrofit options);
• Understanding of community-based social marketing theory and practice;
• Degree or equivalent work experience in management, environment, hydrogeology and/or other related field;
• Experience working with, and sensitivity to the needs and motivations of multiple sectors (service providers, local businesses, schools, churches, environmental and social organizations, property managers, homeowners, new Canadians, etc.);
• Commitment to community betterment demonstrated through volunteer work; and
• Knowledge of Kitchener and Waterloo area and familiarity with key partners would be an asset.
