Quatse
Salmon Stewardship Centre is seeking a motivated student for full-time summer
employment. This position would start mid-June and continue to September. Daily
responsibilities may in

clude acting as receptionist and clerk in the gift shop,
facilitating tours, cleaning and centre maintenance, attending events,
assisting with fundraising activities, and more as required. There are
opportunities to work with the hatchery as time and interest permit.

Education
  • At
    least one year post-secondary in related field (environment, science,
    education, tourism)
  • MUST
    be returning to post-secondary in September
Qualifications
  • Must
    be passionate about connecting visitors with salmonids and their role in
    the ecosystem
  • Confident
    in dealing with spontaneous situations
  • Commitment
    to excellent customer service
  • Comfortable
    working independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness
    to work outdoors in all weather conditions while maintaining a positive
    attitude
  • Ability
    to adapt presentations based on interests and knowledge of groups
  • Ability
    to process admissions and gift shop purchases
  • Valid
    Driver’s License
  • Valid
    First Aid an asset
Experience
  • Experience
    in environmental interpretation is preferred but not required, knowledge
    of salmon and hatchery operations an asset
  • Retail
    experience an asset (cash register operations, inventory tracking, daily
    cash-out procedures)
Roles
and Responsibilities
  1. Act
    as an interpreter for the general public, in both guided tours and
    spontaneous interpretation
  2. Operate
    cash register, responsible for admission sales and gift shop purchases,
    maintain inventory records
  3. Act
    as a receptionist and clerk for the Quatse Salmon Stewardship Centre gift
    shop
  4. Perform
    daily cash-out procedures
  5. Assist
    with fundraising, including events and membership drives
  6. Help
    with the recruitment of new volunteers to the Stewardship Centre
  7. Maintain
    records of visitorship
  8. Clean
    and maintain gift shop inventory and shelving, clean washrooms and
    interpretive gallery exhibits
  9. Assist
    with the organization and execution of public and community events
    (including setting up mobile display, delivering information to visitors
    as a representative of the QSSC, and running children’s activities)
