Progressio Volunteer Jobs Vacancies in Malawi

Progressio is looking for volunteers for our youth volunteering programme in Malawi.Progressio’s ICS 10-week placements offer UK-based young people – 18 to 25 years old (there are also some group leader places for people of 23+) – the possibility to gain first-hand experience of community based development. Through Progressio ICS, you can help local organisations and communities in Malawi to overcome poverty.

As an ICS volunteer, you could use your ideas and talents to help local communities to overcome poverty and injustice. You do not need years of experience, we are looking for volunteers who are committed, keen, able to work with others and open to learning.
Whether you feel you have a lot or little to share, you will definitely develop new skills through varied activities and working with local people, and contribute to lasting change. There will be plenty of opportunities to be creative and use your initiative. As you will be part of a diverse group, you will all have different skills, experiences and interests, which you can use as a team to have a real impact.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, where people struggle to survive on subsistence farming. Communities are vulnerable to droughts and heavy rainfall and their livelihoods are put at risk. The high rates of HIV also impacts on the country’s people and its development.

Previous Progressio ICS volunteers in Malawi have been involved in working with local organisations on a range of activities including: strengthening advocacy messages about HIV prevention, gender and human rights; mitigating stigma and discrimination among people living with HIV in their faith community and beyond; organising awareness campaigns about positive behavioural change with and for young people; researching and conducting surveys; conducting workshops or helping local people organise events and campaigns; assisting local organisations and schools to develop educational materials; raising awareness of environmental issues and increasing the capacity of schools to create greener landscapes; promoting nutrition gardening; marketing of local produce and developing packaging, just to name a few!
