The ONE WORLD FILM FESTIVAL is seeking a program manager for the 2011 Festival. The OWFF is the cornerstone program of One World Arts (formerly WIAM), which works to educate and mobilize Ottawa-Gatineau citizens on global justice and environmental issues, through the arts. The Film Festival combines a wide range of documentary and short films, community discussions and actions, and participation from local organizations — all with a focus on human rights, social change, and environmental issues. The OWFF Program Manager will coordinate all aspects of the 2011 Film Festival (October 2011), in liaison with the One World Arts Board of Directors and the volunteer committee for the One World Film Festival.
This position is a part-time contract position, approximately 1-2 days per week from June 2011 until end of October 2011, with more time required in August-October. Some volunteer time is expected. Remuneration for the full contract will be $5,000.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Some experience and/or training in film, film or other arts/media festivals, social change programs/projects, events planning/management, and/or international development programs
• Familiarity with and interest in social and global justice and environmental sustainability issues and the organizations addressing these issues in Ottawa
• Demonstrated commitment to One World Arts mission and vision: global education through the arts
• High energy, dedication, and passion for the arts and international issues
• Independent worker — must be able to work partially from home
• Excellent people and teamwork skills — must be able to work with a volunteer committee, the volunteer Board of a non-profit organization, and a wide range of other contributors
• Strong writing skills in English
• Excellent communication, outreach, and media relations skills
• Strong program management abilities, especially related to managing funds from Canadian government agencies and foundations
• Strong computer skills, including basic programs and website content management
• Bilingualism (French-English) is a strong asset
• Technical knowledge related to film screenings is a strong asset
• Availability to work erratic hours, including evenings and weekends
RESPONSIBILITIES
Festival Committee Coordination:
• Work closely with the Festival Committee (volunteers)
• Liaise with One World Arts Board of Directors representative(s) on the Festival Committee, and other Board members as required
• Attend most meetings of the OWFF committee and coordinate tasks and deadlines
• Seek and hire volunteers, interns, or other contractors as required
• Integrate the work of the OWFF Committee with broader One World Arts work Festival
Programming:
• Film Selection: Facilitate the final selection of the Festival’s program by August 15th
• Ensure that all films are vetted by the Festival Committee
• Ensure that One World Arts has presentation rights to the films and negotiate film rental Festival
Publicity and Promotions:
• Act as the primary media spokesperson prior to and during the Festival
• Work with the Festival Committee to write film descriptions, artist bios, and other text for the program
• Provide written and visual content for the OWFF website
• Regularly update the website and social media for the OWFF
• Oversee creation, development, and distribution of all promotional material, including for prefestival events
Festival Event Coordination:
• Coordinate ticket production and distribution
• Coordinate the selection of speakers, moderators and presenters and the content of Q & A sessions
at screenings
• Coordinate all technical and projection requirements for the Festival
• Ensure delivery of screening copies for the Festival and return of films afterward
• Lead liaison with all venues and community partners, technicians and projectionists, sponsors, presenters, etc.
• Manage print traffic; booking films and videos and arranging shipping and film and video transfers as required.
• Arrange travel and accommodation for Festival guests and artists including negotiating hotel sponsorship if necessary.
Partnerships, Sponsorship & Community Outreach:
• Work with Festival Committee and Board of Directors Partnerships representative(s) to seek potential sponsor organizations
• Coordinate all logistics of securing and implementing sponsorship
• Establish, develop and strengthen partnerships with relevant NGOs and/or other organizations and individuals, and develop new audiences for the Festival Program Management — Reporting and Finances:
• Manage the film festival budget in collaboration with the Board of Directors (Treasurer)
• Ensure all expenses are paid in a timely manner
• Prepare the Festival Report for One World Arts
• Prepare separate project reports for funders, as required
• Maintain festival files, including the accounts and online files
• Maintain accurate records of the screening rights, payments, returns and shipping of all films (previewed and screened)
