Aufgaben: (Duties) We seeks a full-time veterinary
bacteriologist for the diagnostic unit. This search encompasses an individual
with the demonstrated skills needed to lead a diagnostic unit on diseases of
veterinary and/or public health interest.


The incumbent is expected to:
• contribute to the advancement of veterinary bacteriological diagnostic
• provide expertise concerning bacterial pathogens of public health and/or
veterinary interest to veterinarians, laboratories and cantonal and federal
officials
• contribute to the tutoring of candidates aiming to sit the American College
of Veterinary Microbiologists (ACVM) qualifying board examination
•develop and conduct applied research



Anforderungen:
(Requirements) The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal
and communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with the
laboratory personnel in a small laboratory environment. Empathy for all kind of
contacts via phone, e-mail or mail to veterinarians, cantonal offices and other
laboratories is indispensable for fulfilling the position. Basic knowledge of
German and/or French language is required. Candidates must have a degree in
veterinary medicine and should be board certified by the ACVM or eligible to
sit the ACVM qualifying board examination. Candidates must have interest and
capability in bacteriological diagnostic and research.

(About us) The Institute of Veterinary Bacteriology (www.vbi.unibe.ch) as part
of the Vetsuisse Faculty Bern (www.vetsuisse.unibe.ch) is located at the
Veterinary University Hospital in Bern. The Institute has a long tradition of
excellence in diagnostic services, development and research in different fields
of bacterial pathogens. The diagnostic unit is nationally accredited by the
Swiss Accreditation Service and constitutes as the National Reference
Laboratory for a broad spectrum of epizootic and zoonotic pathogens as well as
for antimicrobial resistance in Switzerland. While the primary focus is
providing diagnostic services, applied research, through the development and
validation of new test methods and reagents, teaching, and extension services
are important related activities. The laboratory personnel of the diagnostic
unit include 10 individuals; 1 head of the division, 1 diplomate (this
position), 1 resident, 1 chief technician, 6 technicians.
