Two men had been arrested in Asaba in connection with an alleged kidnapping of an Egyptian Engineer named Reda Hasanin. The kidnappers led by one Sunny was reported to had lured Reda Hasanin into their net with the pretence of awarding a contract to his firm.
The information leading to the arrest of the two kidnappers came when people in the neighbourhood where Engineer Reda Hasanin was held raised alarm after hearing strange noise of someone shouting in the premises. Worried by the persistence of the noise the neighbours approached the occupants of the compound to demand explanation from them.
One of the suspects came out and told the neighbours that they are having a family affair; that the noise is as a result of their younger brother who returned from Europe with nothing after the family has spent over two million naira in sponsoring his trip to Europe.
Not being satisfied with the suspect’s explanations, they demanded to see the younger brother who was shouting for clarifications. The suspects later went inside and brought someone who he claimed to be the brother.
The neighbours after seeing that the supposed brother voice did not sound any inch like the voice they heard contacted the police. Upon arrival of the police, the Egyptian, Engineer Reda Hasanin who was already unconscious in a pool of blood from injuries he sustained on his head for daring to shout for help was found inside the house. Engineer Reda Hasanin was however resuscitated and taken to hospital for more treatment.
In a statement to the public, the Delta State Police Command image maker, ASP Chuks Orisewezie confirmed the rescue of the Egyptian and also revealed that the two suspects have been transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
After the suspects were arrested, information from the suspects’ neighbours revealed that over the years there had been several similar noises from the compound which indicates that the suspects have been carrying out their heinous crime in the compound for years.
