Planet
Madagascar is a rapidly growing non-profit located in Toronto. We are committed
to improving peoples’ livelihoods while protecting lemurs and forests in
Madagascar. We currently run a conservation education and fire management
program in Madagascar and are looking to expand our initiatives with new
conservation, health, and community development projects. We are seeking a
dynamic and experienced individual located in Toronto who is keen to help us
achieve and surpass our goals.
Duties:
The
Executive Assistant will work closely with the Executive Director in the
following areas:
  • Program
    design, analysis, and reporting
    : Design and develop new projects
    and proposals as well as analyze and report on existing projects for
    internal use and informing donors.
  • Organization:
    Solicit new and engaged board members, and help our organization
    transition from a not-for-profit to a registered charity.
  • Finances:
    Assist the Executive Director, Treasurer and In-country Director with the
    management of finances using Quickbooks software.
  • Technology
    and Social Media
    :
    Manage our website and social media outlets, including Twitter and
    Facebook profiles.
  • Logistics
    Systems:
    Develop
    and administer effective logistical and financial policies to support our
    mission, ensuring effective integration of program resources and people.
    Anticipate and address emerging operational, delivery, and financial
    issues.
  • Funding:
    • Research
      opportunities for grants and develop and write grant proposals.
    • Research
      and seek out alternative funding opportunities, beyond grants.
    • Ensure
      revenue targets are met or exceeded through a balance of onboarding new
      donors (Donor Acquisition) and engagement of existing donors (Donor
      Management).
  • Other
    tasks and functions as directed by the Executive Director.
Required
Qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary
    Degree in Non-Profit Management, Primatology, Ecology, Geography,
    Conservation, or related discipline.
  • Knowledge
    of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated
    ability to acquire grants
  • Effective
    writing skills
  • Fluency
    in English (French a plus)
  • Experience
    creating and managing budgets
Other
Qualifications

(preferred, but not required):
  • Master’s
    Degree in Non-Profit Management, Primatology, Ecology, Geography,
    Conservation, or related discipline and/or related equivalent experience.
  • Experience
    with QuickBooks
  • 3+
    years’ experience in the non-profit sector (conservation or community
    development a plus).
  • French
    language skills OR Conversational knowledge of French
  • Previous
    experience with donor acquisition

organization.

You need to be
self-motivated with the ability to achieve tasks independently. You’ll also
need collaborate and work directly with the Board of Directors and Executive Director.
You should be capable of accomplishing tasks on your own but have the humility
to recognize when help is required and request it as necessary.
