PhD Position in Multi-scale Modeling of Functional Materials at Uppsala University, Sweden

PhD Position in Multi-scale Modeling of Functional Materials at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University in Sweden 2012

Study Subject(s):Multi-scale Modeling of Functional Materials
Course Level:PhD
Scholarship Provider: Uppsala University
Scholarship can be taken at: Sweden

Eligibility:
-The applicant is expected to have a Masters degree in Physics, or equivalent.
-Previous experience in ab-initio electronic structure calculations and molecular dynamics modeling will be considered as an extra merit

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: The Ph.D. student will work as part of a larger international collaboration where we build models and carry out simulations to understand how materials change under irradiation. This is done at all relevant length- and time-scales, i.e. we go all the way from quantum mechanical models for the electronic structure to continuum mechanics to model macroscopic properties. Our group is active at the lower length- and time-scales and will in this project focus on the transition between a quantum mechanical description to a Newtonian description. The Ph.D. work will involve both electronic structure calculations as well as molecular dynamics simulations. Among the model systems we will study are nano-structured metallic multilayers such as the Cu/Nb and Cu/Fe interfaces
