Partners in Health Women’s Health Clinical Advisor Job Vacancy in Rwanda

Title: Women’s
Health Clinical Advisor
Reports to: District Clinical Director (primary), Deputy Director of
Women’s Health Program (secondary)
Location: Rwanda (District Site TBA)

Organizational Profile:
Partners In Health (PIH) is a nonprofit
organization headquartered in Boston, MA, whose mission is to provide quality
health care for the poor and marginalized in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi,
Peru, Mexico, Russia, Dominican Republic, and Navajo Nation. In addition, PIH
has a growing network of affiliated organizations and initiatives in several
other countries, including Nepal, Burundi, Mali, Liberia, and Togo. Through service
delivery, training, advocacy and research, PIH works around the globe to bring
the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of it, to serve as
an antidote to despair, and inspire others to do the same.
Position Overview:
PIH arrived in Rwanda in mid-2005 at the invitation
of the Government of Rwanda and supported in part by the William J. Clinton
Foundation. For the past 7 years, PIH has worked with the Rwandan Ministry of
Health by building infrastructure, supplementing operational budgets, and
training local staff at hospital, health center, and community level in three
rural districts.
Over the past 10 years Rwanda has made dramatic
progress in improving women’s health, including maternal health. PIH has led
several innovative women’s health programs, including development of a
mentoring program for health center nurses, and partnership with the MOH in
national trainings in cervical cancer screening and post-abortion care.
However, maternal mortality remains unacceptably high, and primary health
services for women are minimal. There is also an increasing need for
gynecologic oncology care as Rwanda’s capacity for cancer care grows. There is
thus still important work to be done, including in building the capacity of
rural doctors and nurses in PIH-supported districts in obstetrical and
gynecological care.
In order to fortify the training efforts in Rwanda
and improve the quality of women’s health care we hope to recruit a
board-eligible or board-certified obstetrics/ gynecology physician or family
practitioner, or a certified nurse midwife, to join us as a Women’s Health

to renew.
