Founded 25 years ago, Partners In Health (PIH), a
Harvard-affiliated non-profit organization has become a leading global voice
for social justice, combining creative approaches to health care delivery for
the destitute sick with relentless advocacy that has frequently challenged the
conventional public health wisdom. 
In 2005, at the invitation of the Government
of Rwanda, PIH began an effort to strengthen the public health systems in rural
Rwanda. Working in three rural districts whose infrastructure remained
decimated following the devastating 1994 genocide. PIH has built or renovated
three hospitals, provided support to nearly 40 rural health centers, trained a
network of over 3000 community health workers, and developed services to
address the socioeconomic determinants of disease. Our sites serve as centers
of innovation and education in health care delivery, tackling implementation
challenges from HIV to cancer. As Director of PIH in Rwanda, Dr. Peter Drobac,
works closely with the Government of Rwanda to provide high quality health care
and social services in three rural districts, and to drive health system
innovations to scale.
Position summary
The Coordinator will provide high-level
administrative and basic research support to the Director of Partners In
Health, including efficient and responsive organizational and logistical
support. Research related responsibilities will include managing the Director’s
portfolio of studies, coordinating research teams, conducting literature
reviews, supporting ethical approval submissions, and shepherding manuscripts
through the publication process. Other responsibilities include as-needed
programmatic support, editing, writing, speech-writing, and administrative
activities. The candidate for this position must be highly self-motivated,
demonstrating exceptional attention to detail and diplomacy.
Responsibilities
  • Filter incoming requests, queries, phone calls
    and invitations by redirecting or taking forward such contact as
    appropriate.
  • Manage scheduling by prioritizing tasks,
    meetings, engagements, invitations and other scheduling requests.
  • Liaise with relevant individuals, external
    organizations, etc. to arrange meetings and prepare agendas.
  • Provide briefing support to ensure that the Director
    is fully prepared for all engagements and meetings.
  • Provide support during meetings by keeping
    minutes and producing reports as required.
  • Prepare correspondence on behalf of the
    Director, including drafting general replies and official communications
    and letters.
  • Coordinate in-country and international travel
    and accommodation logistics.
  • Track and process expenditures and claims,
    renew medical licenses and memberships, and provide other clerical support
    as needed.
  • Provide general writing, speech-writing,
    scientific editing, and presentation preparation support.
  • Manage the progression of all studies included
    in the Director’s research portfolio and coordinate author teams as
    needed.
  • Conduct robust research literature reviews as
    needed.
  • Shepherd manuscripts through the publication
    process (including submission, review, and editorial process for research
    articles).
  • Work with the Director to develop an efficient
    system of task and time management.
  • Complete tasks in line with the Director’s
    work habits and preferences, and undertake any other responsibilities as
    needed.
Qualifications
  • Master’s or advanced degree in the health
    sciences, public health, or related field (Alternatives considered: degree
    in progress, or bachelor’s degree with commensurate experience).
  • Experience working within an international
    environment. The ideal candidate would have work experience in an
    international organization, NGO and/or public sector.
  • Demonstrable work experience in an
    administrative, executive assistant, or personal assistant role in a
    highly pressurized environment.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication
    skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and
    Power Point required.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize
    projects with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with
    professionals at all levels in diverse settings; must be flexible,
    reliable, responsive, and resourceful.
  • Possess advanced diplomatic instincts, ability
    to gracefully and humbly work within challenging professional contexts requiring
    tact, judgment and discretion.
  • Willingness to travel in-country frequently
    and at short notice and to work irregular hours.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking
    skills.
  • Ability to think ahead and anticipate needs
    before they arise.
  • Research experience or strong interest in
    research preferred.
  • Fluency in English required.
