doctoral studentship in any area of music. The Studentship is open to
both national and international candidates. To be eligible for this
studentship, prospective students must fulfill the conditions for doctoral
study and have been offered a place as a PhD student at Bangor
University. Studentship is offered for a period of three

Study Subject(s): The School is inviting applications from candidates with outstanding
research potential in any area of music, but especially for doctoral projects
that fall within the established research groups or the remit of staff research
interests (including musicology, composition, electroacoustic composition,
sonic arts and performance).

successful candidate will be expected to take up his/her studies at Bangor in
the autumn of 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Scholarship Description:  This award is named after D. E. Parry Williams (1900-1996), the first
Head of School at Bangor. It is funded by an endowment at the University in his
memory. For more than a decade now, the Parry Williams fund has supported excellent
undergraduate and postgraduate students in Music. The School is inviting
applications from candidates with outstanding research potential in any area of
music, but especially for doctoral projects that fall within the established
research groups or the remit of staff research interests (including musicology,
composition, electroacoustic composition, sonic arts and performance).
Applications are particularly welcome from students working in David Parry
William’s own specialist areas: Welsh music and composition.
Duration of award(s): Studentship is offered for a period of three years.
What does it cover? Total offer is of £7,500.
How to Apply: Candidates must submit the following:
– An online application form for the PhD programme
– A proposal of the doctoral research project (up to 2,000 words as a PDF, sent
to g.griffith-at-bangor.ac.uk). This should address the following aspects:
– research question
– research context in which the question is located
– methodology
– previous experience in the field and preparedness for the task
– contribution to knowledge and understanding expected to result from the
project
– link(s) with research environment and/or staff expertise at Bangor
-The proposal document should also include samples of your previous work,
either within the PDF, or as links to online materials.
– A detailed CV (as a separate PDF, sent to g.griffith-at-bangor.ac.uk),
including a list of recent work (dissertations, compositions, performances,
articles, conference papers, recordings, etc.) as applicable.
