To qualify,
you must:

·        
be
30 years old or younger at the start of the project and unemployed or
under-employed;
·        
have
graduated from a university, college or CEGEP;
·        
not
have participated in any other Youth Employment Strategy programs (that is,
Career Focus); and
·        
be
a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.

About the
Organic Council of Ontario:

The Organic Council
of Ontario (OCO) is the voice for organics in Ontario. It represents Ontario’s
organic sector value chains and has a membership of over 150 producers,
processors, retailers and consumers and includes organizations such as the
Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario.

About the
Job:

The Organic Council
of Ontario is looking for a qualified Communications Specialist who is
passionate about agriculture and the environment. The organization is
undergoing a transformation and as such we are seeking a motivated individual
who can help to transform our communications tools to better engage our growing
membership of organic businesses and concerned citizens.

As part of this transformation,
we are building an Ontario Organic Sector Contribution Program to address the
need for more stable funding for the sector. This program engages organic
businesses in paying a small fee on all organic sales similar to agricultural
check off programs.

Meanwhile, the
Ontario government has recently launched their Climate Change Action Plan that
names several key goals for Ontario agriculture. The Organic Council of Ontario
is keen to demonstrate the benefits of organic agriculture in mitigating and
adapting to climate change.

The primary duties
of the Communications Specialist will fall into three main categories:

1.     
General
Communications
1.     
To
update the content, design and functionality of the Organic Council of
Ontario’s main website;
2.     
To
design beautiful and incisive monthly e-newsletters with relevant information
for our industry and consumer members;
3.     
To
monitor and develop our social media channels and content;
4.     
To
monitor relevant media and google alerts;
5.     
To
support the development of media releases and monitor relevant media hits;
6.     
To
improve internal communications systems (e.g. aggregate relevant stock photos,
improve tagging procedures etc.)
2.     
Ontario
Organic Contributions Program
1.     
To
develop web tools and campaign site to solicit new contributors;
2.     
To
develop a recognition strategy for contributors;
3.     
To
build education tools and infographics to illustrate how the program works;
3.     
Climate
Change Research
1.     
Conduct
research helping to identify ways in which organic agriculture contributes to
Climate Change mitigation and adaptation;
2.     
Design
recommendations for Climate Change Action Plan to incorporate organic
agriculture into program implementation.

The Ideal
Candidate

·        
Is
highly motivated, can work independently and in a team;
·        
Is
passionate and knowledgeable about organic agriculture;
·        
Has
2-3 years experience with WordPress and/or other website development platforms
(Nationbuilder an asset);
·        
Has
2-3 years experience working with Mailchimp or similar newsletter applications;
·        
Has
experience managing multiple social media channels simultaneously including
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram (familiarity with Tweetdeck, Hootsuite or other
management tools an asset);
·        
Has
experience with graphic design (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Canvas etc.);
·        
Has
experience with contact management and/or online directory tools;
·        
Has
strong written communications skills and an eye for design;
·        
Has
an understanding of the Ontario agri-food landscape;
·        
Has
an understanding of the Ontario Climate Change Action Plan;
·        
Experience
with communications strategy, marketing and designing campaigns an asset;
·        
Experience
with cloud file storage and sharing systems;
·        
Experience
designing infographics an asset;
·        
French
language skills an asset.
