welcomes people of any faith or no faith who are motivated to share in its mission.
Because of its history, many of the titles and structures are particular to St. John, but worldwide it has the breadth of delivery of a modern healthcare organisation, including national and state ambulance operations and a world-class ophthalmic hospital in Jerusalem. The Order of St. John, with the help of Oxford HR, is looking for a Director of International Development Programmes to work from their London headquarters. Main duties and responsibilities include: providing central support to St John Associations, working up major international development programmes in health-related areas; engaging in proactive fundraising to achieve delivery of the programmes above; building up the Development Office so that it is able to deliver this support and become a self-sustaining viable entity; and more broadly supporting the work of St John in relation to Associations.
The ideal candidate will have:
• A track record of delivery of challenging projects either within or outside the development field.
• Experience of staff support, leadership and management
• Experience of leading an organisation towards an important growth strategy
• Experience in financial management and budgeting
• Experience of working with international partner organisations
• Experience of working with volunteers and voluntary organisations
• Experience of leading an organisation through a restructure process
• International experience working in a health development context in a senior management position
The intention is to separate off support to Associations from other central functions (which would remain in a co-located “Order Office”) and to increase the support given, focusing in particular on the development of one or more international development programmes. The Director role is a new role and can be expected to evolve as needs and opportunities arise. As with any growing organisation, the new Director will need to balance planning and vision with implementation and ‘doing.’ The post is likely to require considerable travel outside UK.
The Director will account to the Sub-Prior, and through him /her to the Lord Prior and Grand Council, for the central work of the Order in relation to Associations, and provide support to the Associations as directed by Grand Council.
