What can I expect in this role?

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, you will:
• Provide credible and objective scientific advice, guidance and environmental
services to support the ministry’s strategic goals, regulations, policies and
decisions in relation to emerging and existing pollutants, human and ecosystem
protection research.
• Lead the development/implementation of strategic frameworks that will build
the ministry’s capacity to conduct environmental research and monitoring of
ecosystems parameters, climate change science, including adaption/mitigation,
cumulative and environmental impacts.
• Lead strategic goals/initiatives, toward achieving the open government,
knowledge discovery in databases, enhanced scientific research and leading-edge
innovative solutions to tackle environmental challenges.
• Direct the provision of environmental research, analysis and interpretation
of data in anticipation of key ministry issues, environmental risks/threats
that support policy and program decision making.
• Direct the development and implementation of evaluation methods used to
measure outcomes/impacts of branch projects/programs and services.
• Develop strong relationships with clients and stakeholders that are
sustainable, including building strong linkages with environmental subject
matter experts, including federal and municipal partners and First Nations
communities.

How do I qualify?

Senior operational leadership:
• You have proven success building, leading and mentoring high performing teams
in a fast paced technical operational environment with significant experience
in environmental sciences.
• You are a strategic leader who fosters a team/staff culture that encourages
active contribution, innovation and collaboration in a transformative
operational environment, including a high standard of key performance
indicators.
• You have demonstrated political acuity and well-developed ability to build
and maintain partnerships, develop trust and positive working relationships
with clients and internal/external partners, executives and ministry personnel.

Relationship management/client service:
• You have proven experience managing complex relationships which include
multiple external stakeholders internal and external to the OPS.
• You have demonstrated experience using consultative techniques to build
strong linkages with your partners and have demonstrated experience
communicating complex and sensitive information to senior leaders.
• You have demonstrated experience working within a client service operational
framework, with proven ability to foster a client-first focused environment.

Change management:
• You have a proven track record of strategic thinking, innovation and
effective decision making, enabling you to contribute to operational
modernization as it relates to the ministry’s objectives and long term
strategic direction.
• You have successfully built/developed teams and demonstrated agility in a
change scenario where you have used your influence skills to obtain buy-in from
your change agents.
• You have demonstrated capabilities to drive change and obtain collaborative
buy-in from internal and external stakeholders, colleagues and staff.

Job specific:
• You have proven experience spearheading transformational projects utilizing
current project management methodologies/principles and have an in-depth
understanding of the broader public sector including the organizational
structure of the Provincial Government.
• You have a strong technical background in environmental science theories and
principles, including a demonstrated ability to utilize multilateral scientific
expertise and translate the information into common and easy to understand
language.
• You have knowledge of the interpretation and application of government
legislative authorities, regulations, policies related to Environmental
Regulations, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Environmental Management
System, Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and Emergency Response
Directives.

Location: Toronto – Permanent

Salary range: $115,000 – $131,450 per year
