The Programme:
BBC Media Action is producing an exciting radio programme – Niambie – that
provides a platform for young Tanzanians to examine the burning questions and
challenges facing the youth today. Through a creative, energetic, youth-led
radio programme, with the support of dedicated web- and social-media platforms,
Niambie actively engages young Tanzanians in conversation, encouraging them to
participate in shaping the content and direction of the programme.
The Niambie programme inspires and promotes active citizenship amongst young
Tanzanians. With an over-arching focus on encouraging young people to question
their role in civic affairs and the wider national agenda, Niambie enhances
dialogue between the youth and leaders whilst examining the opportunities for
young Tanzanians to engage in community life and influence change in wider
society.

Overall Purpose of
Job
The main task of the intern will be to learn about how production happens by
joining in with the design, recording and editing of the radio show and social
media context.

The intern role will
be to:
Be a voice on Niambie and help create a tone and style of the radio output
establishing a relationship with listeners
Plan, rehearse shows where need be and memorize scripts
Support the presenters and producers to introduce, host and edit programmes
Gather and verify information for topics through interviews, observation, and
research (depending on the format).
Organize material, determine angle or emphasis according to the prescribed
editorial style and format standards.
Work cooperatively with the production team on assigned stories/topics.
Assist the Content Producer in preparing the weekly/monthly topics of the
programme
Assist production staff in preparing content for the show’s multimedia
platforms.
Carry out a range of other production tasks, as well as deliver content for
related websites or other media platforms

Required knowledge,
skills, and experience.
Applicant should be aged 18-20 only.
Proven passion for joining the Niambie production Team
Experience in presenting and/or performance
Ability to generate original ideas, think creatively on how to communicate them
and understand how to use the voice effectively for radio
Ability to build credibility and understanding by communicating knowledgably
and engagingly with audiences
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to gather information from people
Ability to work independently but also as part of a team
Self-motivation and flexibility
Ability to work effectively under pressure, react quickly, and meet tight
deadlines
