6000, is a town located in northwestern British Columbia, Canada, halfway
between Princ
e George and Prince Rupert. Itis a naturally beautiful,
welcoming and small Northern BC town with stunning vistas in all directions.A
plethora of summer and winter activities attract locals and visitors alike.
People come to Smithers for fishing, boating camping, hiking, skiing, shopping
or to listen to the local musical talent. Many visit (and have moved to)
Smithers for its easy access to the outdoors and the local entertainment scene.
Rolling hills and farmland, rivers, creeks, lakes, mountain ranges,
greenforests, and wildlife such as bears and moose enclose the town. Looking
for things to do in Smithers? The town is an oasis foreverything outdoors. An
abundance of mountains, rivers and lakes – not to mention fossil beds and
cultural sights – are all within a few minutes from downtown and easily
accessible for self-guided visitors or those on tours.
Job Summary;
- Develop
story ideas and report on assigned news/sports events. - Utilize
social media to build audience and contacts with daily updating for the
news section on the station website. - Ability
to cover all news beats including crime, city and territorial politics,
the environment, social justice issues, business, labor, community events
& sporting events. - Responsible
for editing and reading news and sports casts as well as writing and
anchoring afternoon newscasts - A
good voice and strong presentation skills are essential. Experience
preferred. - Full-time
hours, Monday to Friday. - Represent
the station at community/station events and on-location broadcasts/remotes
as required.
Job Requirements:
- Journalism
Degree or Diploma. - Credible
delivery and On-Air skills. - Strong
Leadership skills. - High
level of initiative/self-motivation, goal oriented. - Strong
audio/editing, written and communication skills. - Experience
with KLZ Newsroom would be an asset. - Ability
to relate to the local target audience. - Conceptual,
creative thinker and problem solver. - Must
enjoy a fast-paced work environment that is based on team & individual
effort. - Valid
driver’s license and reliable automobile. - A
positive, friendly manner and customer service approach.
