Mushkegowuk Council is supporting the land use planning activities of the
Mushkegowuk First Nations. The planning is community led but regionally
integrated through Mushkegowuk Council. We are looking for an experienced
planner who can provide the technical planning support for this initiative.
Reporting to the Land Use Planning Manager of Mushkegowuk Council, the Regional
Land Use Planner will provide advice and guidance for all aspects of land use
planning and develop supporting documents. As part of a team of regional staff
and community coordinators, the Planner will provide advice on planning process
and strategies as well as prepare and deliver educational opportunities to
First Nation staff and members.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* University degree in a related field and relevant experience in land use
planning (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
* Extensive knowledge and experience in the development of land use planning
processes and strategies including the preparation of planning documents, land
use plans and/or resource management plans
* Proven strong writing skills and pertinent documentation preparation work
* Experience in developing and delivering educational materials relating to
land use planning and values collection
* Knowledge of the economic, social and political environment of the
Mushkegowuk (Western James Bay) Region and/or experience with First Nations
and/or knowledge of remote northern realities
* Ability to identify key issues in a situation and to think creatively and
strategically in facing internal and external challenges
* Proven strong verbal communication and presentation skills including problem
solving and collaborative work
* Working knowledge of computers and various software applications relevant to
land use planning
* Willingness to travel extensively and on short notice
* Initiative and discretion in dealing with sensitive information and issues
* Initiative is required in effectively and efficiently completing assigned
tasks
* Proficiency in Omushkegomowin (Cree) would be considered a great asset
* A valid Ontario Driver’s License is required
