SUMMER PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR
Position Summary: Mt Seymour Resort is seeking strong environmental
and personal role models to be Summer Program Instructors for our
wilderness-based summer day camps operating from the top of Mt
Seymour. Our experiential camps engage kids aged 5-14 in nature
education, wilderness awareness and survival skills, and personal
growth and development.
Responsibilities & Duties: Some program development, program delivery,
direct leadership and care of children and youth,
environmental/personal role modelling, and general administrative
tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES (REQUIRED):
• Experience working with children aged 5-14
• Exemplifies such qualities as: social and environmental
responsibility, self-awareness, safety awareness, and a passion for
continuous learning and mentorship
• Familiarity with Mt Seymour summer hiking trails
• Knowledge of Mt Seymour flora and fauna
• Knowledge of primitive survival skills and bushcraft
• Demonstrated group leadership skills in an outdoor (preferably
wilderness) setting
• Knowledge of wilderness safety and etiquette
• Amazing team player and ability to work independently with minimal
supervision
• Capable of mentoring and supporting volunteer leaders in training
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Current first aid certificate
• Commitment to environmental responsibility
• Flexible schedule
QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES (DESIRED):
• Degree or diploma in outdoor recreation or adventure tourism
• Degree in biology, environmental studies or related area of study,
or equivalent
• Formal interpretation experience
• Knowledge of local First Nations history and culture
• Training or experience working with children with special needs
• Reliable transportation
• Class 4 driver’s license
Camp Instructors will work collaboratively to do the following:
• Develop and refine age-appropriate summer program content
• Deliver daily programming
• Be responsible for the care, safety of, and injury prevention of campers
• Develop props and supporting material/equipment
• Maintain a positive camp environment
OTHER:
• Must be available for entire employment duration from June 16 to August 29
• Hours may be part-time from June 16 to start of camp and August
25-29. Full time (40 hours) for duration of camps.
• Employment is based on bookings and is not guaranteed
• Must be willing to complete a criminal record check
• Must be willing to work on a mountain top in challenging weather and
environmental conditions

cultural differences, be capable of providing positive, nurturing, and
appropriate discipline, prepared for all weather conditions, flies and
mosquitos. Knowledge of primitive survival skills an asset.
