The Department of
Civil Engineering is currently seeking a Professor (or Associate Professor) in
the area of Engineeri

ng for Extremes who will be instrumental in establishing
their core research focus of resilient engineering in extreme environments such
as fire, flood and wind which are particular to the Australian climate.

The Faculty of
Engineering is one of the largest in Australia, renowned worldwide for the
quality and calibre of the teaching and research and the high recognition of
those who graduate from the Faculty. The Faculty has world class facilities
including well-equipped laboratories and many items of large infrastructure,
from advanced imaging and visualisation facilities, to the largest wind tunnel
and strong floor in the southern hemisphere.

The Department of
Civil Engineering aims to find resilient solutions to societal grand
challenges, by combining global leadership in education with innovative research
to create change. To achieve this, the Department has recently repositioned
their research focus, identifying seven key areas of research which span the
three themes of monitoring, prediction and protection, energy water, resources
and resilience, infrastructure and society, which together connect together the
overarching theme of Engineering for Extremes. These themes will be underpinned
by several important research centres and activities which this Professorial
appointment will have the opportunity to assist in establishing and shaping.

Reporting to the
Head of Department the successful candidate will have a strong academic track
record, provide academic leadership and mentoring to research teams and early
career researchers and contribute to the teaching program within the
Department. This is a full time position and will be based at the University’s
Clayton Campus.
