From Yokohama to the World: Who Is MinoMiyabi?
In the age of the gig economy, even global superstars are exploring new artistic avenues—and so are the creatives who help bring their visions to life. One of the most compelling voices in that space is MinoMiyabi, a Japanese-American comic artist whose dynamic style has become a go-to for musicians looking to expand their storytelling into the world of graphic novels.
MinoMiyabi was born in Yokohama, Japan, and is currently based in Los Angeles. He began his career in visual storytelling as a concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering, before shifting into comics and illustration. He made waves with The Chronicles of Noodle, his contribution to the Gorillaz Almanac (2020), and has since collaborated with artists such as Yungblud, Poppy, and BoyWithUke—each time blending their sonic worlds with his vibrant, detail-rich illustrations.

Alter Ego: Lisa’s World, Through MinoMiyabi’s Eyes
Earlier this year, Lisa of BLACKPINK dropped her long-awaited solo album Alter Ego, followed by a companion comic book of the same name in March. The graphic novel, illustrated by MinoMiyabi, brings to life a kaleidoscopic sci-fi narrative featuring five alter egos of Lisa—Roxi, Kiki, Sunni, Speedy, and the central protagonist, Vixi.
In the comic, these avatars band together to save Vixi from a virtual reality trap set by sinister forces—a metaphorical reflection of themes Lisa explores in her music: identity, pressure, and inner strength.
MinoMiyabi’s signature style—simultaneously gritty and ethereal—adds emotional depth to the panels. He explains that he adapts his artistic approach depending on the client, but always with the goal of staying true to the emotional core of the story.
“A MinoMiyabi comic marries vivid liveliness with undergirded grit,” says one critic. “As if acknowledging reality while accentuating it at the same time.”
A Shared Legacy in Music and Art
Lisa isn’t the first performer to step into the world of graphic novels. Gorillaz Almanac, Yungblud’s Weird Times at Quarry Banks University, and Alison Wonderland’s Loner are part of a growing trend where musicians extend their creative vision beyond audio to visual storytelling.
What connects them all is MinoMiyabi—the artist trusted to translate music into motionless but emotionally charged frames.
Final Thoughts: More Than a Side Hustle
In an era when artists wear many hats, MinoMiyabi stands out not just for his talent, but for the heart and authenticity he brings to every project. Whether it’s comics, collaborations, or charity, he’s building bridges between cultures, genres, and communities—one panel (or skateboard) at a time.
